CM Issue: PKR claimed mStar, The Star disseminated false information

SHAH ALAM, 6 Sept: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) today denied reports by mStar and The Star regarding the issue of the Selangor Chief Minister nomination by claiming that the party nominated three candidates to the Palace, apart from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The PKR Communications Director, Fahmi Fadzil, said that the article which was written by both, the portal and the newspaper, quoted from sources that spread false information on the number of Chief Minister candidates sent by PKR to the Palace.

He said that this was also denied by the PKR Secretary-General, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who said that the news was not accurate.

“The articles also tried to create the perception that the Secretary-General confirmed the number of candidates mentioned by mStar and The Star’s “source”.

“This should not have been done as the Secretary-General did not answer questions on the issue of the number of candidates,” he said in a statement.

mStar reported that PKR finally nominated three candidates for the Selangor Chief Minister seat after a few weeks of defending Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the sole candidate to fill the hot seat.

The portal said in addition to Wan Azizah, the two other candidates nominated are the PKR Deputy President, Azmin Ali and the Assemblyman for Ijok, Dr Idris Ahmad.

However, in the letter which was sent to the Selangor Palace on Friday, PKR claimed that Dr Wan Azizah should be appointed because she has the majority support.

The statutory declaration which was signed by 30 Assemblymen in support of Wan Azizah’s nomination was also attached to the letter.

The PKR Political Bureau discussed the matter for two days, while the party advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, insisted for his wife to be named as the sole candidate.
