SHAH ALAM, 25 Sept: The irresponsible attitude of some parties in illegally dumping rubbish at several locations in Sementa has become more aggressive.
At least two new illegal dumping locations have been identified, involving areas in Lebuh Sungai Kapar Indah and the fishermen’s jetty in Kampung Batu Empat in the region.
The picture shared by the Assemblywoman for Sementa, Dr Daroyah Alwi, on her Facebook page showed knee-high piles of burned rubbish at Lebuh Sungai Kapar Indah.
Dr Daroyah believes that the rubbish is masterminded by the kereta potong (assembling cars from parts of other scrapped cars) operators when vehicle parts were found in the burning rubbish pile.
“To the operators, please be advised to be responsible and do not just be concerned about maximum profit by cutting costs by illegally dumping rubbish as eventually, this will pose a problem to other people such as pollution and making it difficult for local authorities to clean it repeatedly,” she said.
The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) will call the kereta potong operators for a dialogue and a briefing session to ensure that the problem can be solved.
Meanwhile in Kampung Batu Empat, the piles of garbage from various types of material have piled high and are affecting the livelihood of fishermen.
Selangor Kini understands that the burned piles of rubbish have polluted the local environment with a stench and thick smoke.
“What is sadder is that it is detrimental to the local ecosystem, especially the fishermen who rely on seafood products as their source of income.
“The sample quality of pollution levels taken from the area will be taken to a lab to be tested if it contains toxic waste that is hazardous to health,” she said.
In addition to on-going monitoring, Dr Daroyah urged MPK to take appropriate action as soon as possible so that such incidents do not recur in the future.
Prior to this, Dr Daroyah visited the location of the illegal dumping and illegal burning of garbage in Kampung Batu Empat with the MPK Quick Team and staff from the Selangor Department of Environment as soon as she received complaints from the local residents.
