SHAH ALAM, 11 Sept: The Executive Councillor in charge of Education, Higher Learning and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali, expressed her disappointment regarding the leak of the Primary School Assessment (UPSR) Science paper which has led to the test being postponed to September 30.

She said that this has caused stress and frustration, and will have a profound impact on students who will be sitting for the examination.

She said that the issue of leaked questions did not just happen this year, and in fact, it has been said to happen almost every year.

“I hope that the Malaysian Ministry of Education will take action or learn from this problem because it should not happen.

“I ask the ministry to conduct a study on the real cause and be honest because we do not want it to repeat,” she told Selangor Kini.

Halimah said that the apology from the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Education Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, is insufficient because the same problem has been repeating, but no action has been taken.

“Action has to be more than an apology because it always repeats and I hope that such an incident will not repeat during the Form 3 Examination (PT3),” said Halimah who is also the Assemblywoman for Selat Klang.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Serdang, Dr Ong Kian Ming, said that it is a major mistake by the Examination Board which does not only affect 472,853 Standard Six students, but it also affects their families.

He said that students who are ready to complete the test in three days now have to wait three weeks before taking the Science test.

“The confidence of both, parents and students, on the integrity of the examination paper in future will also be affected.

“Therefore, Muhyiddin must give assurance that a similar leakage will not occur for the UPSR Science paper on September 30, and that it will not also occur for the PT3 papers, the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM),” he said.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Ministry of Education, announced that the examination date for the UPSR Science subject has been postponed to a new date; September 30.

This is because the examination paper was found to have been widely spread on social networking sites.

It involves the examination for the Science paper with the code “018, 028 and 038”.
