Appointment of 23 Council Members approved

SHAH ALAM, 16 Oct: The Selangor State Government Executive Council approved the appointment of 23 new Council Members from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to fill up 55 vacant seats across Selangor.

The appointment involves two seats for the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) and the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL).

3.1

The new appointment also involves three for the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), one for the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp) and four for the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

The Executive Councillor in charge of Local Government, Ean Yong Hian Wah, said that the remaining 32 vacancies will be filled as soon as the state government receives the names from PKR, DAP and PAS to fill up the remaining quota.

“The state government approved 23 Council Members. The vacancies under the PKR quota are 48. Do we have filled 23, while 25 others have problems due to incomplete documentation like the lack of the required certification and so on.

“If they can submit the certification fast, we can approve it during the nearest state government Exco meeting,” said Ean Yong during a media conference at his office on level 15 of the State Government Secretary’s (SUK) Building today.

He said that the delay in the appointment of the new Council Members may affect the quality of the state government’s services to the people of Selangor.

Apart from PKR, which has a quote of 25 more seats to be filled, PAS also has two more vacancies and DAP has five more seats.

He said that the appointment of the new 23 Council Members will be effective until next year according to PKR’s own request which shortens the period to only a year for each term compared to PAS and DAP which is two terms.

Ean Yong also hopes that the new Council Members appointed can carry out their responsibilities and trust to give more effective services to the people of Selangor.
