MBPJ Mega Dengue Ops managed to reduce dengue cases by 44%

PETALING JAYA, 30 Oct: The statistics of dengue cases in areas under the administration of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) managed to record a reduction of up to 44 percent as a result of the Mega Dengue Ops.

The Mayor, Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad, said that 1,144 cases reported in July has reduced to 750 cases and 420 cases reported in August.

She said that hotspot localities have also gone down from 30 localities in July to 10 localities in September.

“Although statistics are encouraging and the lowest recorded for this year after the Mega Ops ended, MBPJ will continue efforts so that dengue can be controlled.

“The Environmental Health Department will double inspection at sites and premises as act fast in considering the likelihood of cases at places that have Aedes breeding potential,” she said.

She said this when chairing the full meeting with council members and department heads at the MBPJ head office today.

The Mega Ops began on July 24 and ended on September 23 in four states; Selangor, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan and the Federal Territory.

For MBPJ areas, 54 hotspots have been inspected, including landfills, storage centres for old goods, closed construction sites, business areas and schools.

Alinah also hopes that the public will cooperate and take care of the cleanliness to ensure that dengue can be combated.

“At the same time, we will also continue health campaigns, destroy breeding areas at hotspots, gotong royong and larvaciding.

“MBPJ will intensify various control methods and prevention at the grassroots” she said.
