Unisel SRC: Do not lower fees but withdraw facilities

SHAH ALAM, 2 Oct: The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Selangor (Unisel) hopes that the existing facilities on campus will not be reduced when the fee is reduced.

However, its Vice-President, Adeeb Farhan Ahmad Fadzillah, welcomed the recommendations by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim which is deemed as being sensitive towards the problems of the students at the university.

“We welcome the statement. High fees would definitely be burdensome, especially for students who are poor and less fortunate.

“However, we hope that if the fees are lowered and it is appropriate, the facilities will not be reduced,” he told Selangor Kini.

Adeeb Farhan however is of the opinion that the fee at Unisel is among the lowest compared to private institutes of higher learning.

He said that Unisel’s fee which is not considered a public institute of higher learning is still lower compared to other private institutes of higher learning that costs twice as much.

“The SRC will also hold discussions with the university management on the group of students who have failed to pay tuition fees. So far, about 99 percent of cases have been resolved.

“The majority of students are able to sit for their exams,” he said.

The Unisel SRC Treasurer, Qurratu Aini Ali Muhamed, said that the issue seems to be endless even after being raised several times.

“Talk is cheap, certainly all students will like it. But we are concerned that when it is cheap, many facilities such as the library will be withdrawn,” she said.
