Nearly 50 percent of dengue cases nationwide occurred in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 4 Nov: A total of 41,507 dengue cases, with 58 deaths, occurred in Selangor out of the 84,682 cases recorded nationwide.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women’s Affairs and Family, Dr Daryoah Alwi, said that it is based on reports by the Malaysian Ministry of Health, as of October 25.

She said that the figures show that nearly 50 percent of dengue cases occurred in this state, with 1,000 to 1,200 new cases recorded every week.

“We have set the target for the reduction of cases at 50 percent; to 500 cases per week,” she said to Selangor Kini.

Dr Daryah said that the state government will hold a briefing session for the implementation of the Mega Gotong Royong: Terjah and Destroy Aedes Selangor at all levels to curb the problem.

She said that the aim is to intrude and destroy potential Aedes breeding places in villages, homes, offices and public areas.

“It will be implemented simultaneously throughout Selangor starting November 16,” she said.
