Parents need to shape children to be the best generation

KLANG, 16 Nov: Parents and guardians should shape their children with the best examples so that they become a useful generation in future, thus bringing pride to society and the nation.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women’s Affairs and Family, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that 25 percent of child formation is influenced by genetics, while 75 percent is affected by environmental factors.

In addition, she said that exposure to early education and pre-school is also very important so that children grow up in a perfect life.

“Children will learn wither through peers, teachers, parents, media and the latest technology. They have the right to have a good name, be protected, given education, safety and well-being.

“We, as caregivers, including educators, should always apply these things in raising a child,” she said during the Opening Ceremony of the Selangor Children’s Day 2014 Celebration in Taman Rakyat, Taman Sri Andalas, yesterday.

The celebration was to honour and celebrate children in conjunction with the World Children’s Day celebration on November 20.

It featured many interesting activities such as a nasyid competition, storytelling, colouring and singing.

At the same time, Daroyah said that the number of children recorded was 10.5 million, while in Selangor, there are 1.7 million children based on the National Department of Statistics.

She said that the government also enacted the National Children’s Policy which gives the right to survival and protection so that they have the opportunity to have a conducive environment.

“We ensure the best growth for our children through teaching with love, discipline and mind to develop their character. They also need to be instilled with values and religion,” she said.
