Target to increase Youth Marriage Incentive by 30%

PETALING JAYA, 1 Nov: The Selangor government targets a 30 percent increase for the Youth Marriage Incentive next year.

The Exco for Young Generation, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, said that the intention will begin by launching a large-scale campaign to promote programmes under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) agenda for the information of youth.

This is because, through studies, there are still many youth who do not know about the programme and some of them are still not clear about the incentive.

“The collected record so far shows that 17,000 youths starting a family have registered with the state government.

“I am also receiving the latest statistics from the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (JAIS) to see exactly how many youth marriages have been registered.

“In this effort, we may have an increase in registration (30 percent) by next year because many youths still do not know of the existence of this incentive,” he said.

He said this when met by Selangor Kini after the Youth Marriage Incentive Presentation Ceremony to 15 youth couples at the PK Arena Complex yesterday.

Through the Selangor Youth Marriage Incentive, each eligible couple will receive RM500.

At the initial phase, the state government only gave an incentive of RM200 per couple before it was increased to RM500.
