SHAH ALAM, 20 May: Selangor is now exploring opportunities to work with German technical institutions to accelerate the production of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce in the state.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state will take proactive measures to pioneer expertise and skills training although education is the jurisdiction of the federal government.

“The national education system needs a reform so that it does not only focus on academic excellence but also technical and professional skills.

“We must learn from Germany which runs a two-pronged system and is the core of its industrial achievements,” he said today.

In relation to that, Mohamed Azmin said that the University of Selangor (Unisel) has been requested to pave the way to become an education hub to achieve the aim of producing more graduates in the field of quality expertise.

“We now plan for higher education institutions like Unisel to be developed into a regional university by establishing campuses in neighbouring countries and to establish constructive cooperation with leading universities of the world,” he said.
