SHAH ALAM, 25 June: The federal government should consider the reduction of toll charges or a highway discount due to the high cost of living borne by the people today.
The Damansara Utama Assemblyman, Yeo Been Yin, said that the people are increasingly burdened by various increases everyday that increases household expenses.
“We support the proposal by NGOs for highway concessions to give rebates or discounts to good motorists, but regardless, it requires the approval of the federal government.
“The federal government should consider this matter seriously because the majority of users use tolled highways everyday,” she told Selangor Kini.
She said that the introduction of the goods and services tax (GST) increases the burden of the people who are already burdened with this situation which may lead to an increase in the rate of inflation.
She said that the people, as consumers, should be given priority with flexible low payment rates.
“This matter has long been spoken of and due consideration should be made to reduce the burden of consumers,” he said.
Earlier, the Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association (PPIM), proposed the matter to reduce congestion and it is not limited to the festive season only.
