Storm: 89 families receive aid from state government

SHAH ALAM, 3 AUG: The suffering of victims of the Felda Gedangsa storm disaster in Hulu Selangor received the attention of the state government when 89 families received the appropriate assistance.

The Exco of Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said the financial assistance of RM300 to RM500 for each family was to lighten the burden of the victims.

She said that, apart from financial aid, the state government also handed over foodstuffs and other daily necessities.

“The aid was granted to victims within a week after the incident involving the residents of Kampung Felda Gedangsa and Gedangsa.

“In addition to the help of the State, the victims also received donations from the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS),” she told Selangor Kini.

On 27 July, an estimated 100 homes of Felda Gedangsa settlers were damaged by a 15-minute tornado storm due to heavy rain which lasted for almost two hours.

The disaster is the third incident this year and the worst as it affects many villages.
