WHB: KPKT terminated contract for no reason

BY HAFIZAN TAIB

SHAH ALAM, SEP 8: Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB) has been doing a good job operating the Solid Waste Transfer Station (SATS) in Seksyen 21 for the past five years, since 2012.

However, its Chief Operating Oficer, Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria said, the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) did not consider extending its contract upon expiration as they said that WHB did not comply to their regulations.

“We have applied for KPKT to reconsider the termination.

“Last March, we received feedback from the National Solid Waste Management Department (JPSPN) stating the contract termination was due to WHB’s failure to comply to clause 7.2.1. which stated among others that WHB must meet the set Key Performance Index (KPI),” she said.

She said that in a Select Committee on Local Authorities (JP-PBT) private hearing session pertaining to the status of SATS in Seksyen 21, chaired by Dr Idris Ahmad, yesterday.

She said, KPKT awarded WHB an operating contract for five years, from January 6, 2012 to May 21, 2017 and implementation work within 21 years from 2011 to 2032.

In March 2016, WHB applied to renew the contract with KPKT from 2017 to 2022.

However, on May 2016, the approval received from KPKT was only for a two-year period from May 22, 2017 to May 22, 2019.

“However, following that, KPKT revoked the contract without any reason,” she said.

She said, WHB only received feedback on that after sending in several applications to KPKT.

It was made to understand that during the period of operation, WHB had never received any negative feedback on its service.
