SHAH ALAM, 16 Mar: The people of Selangor will be ‘bosses’ in the Selangor water industry when the State Government issues the water shares on day, said Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

According to Abdul Khalid, the sharing step between the government and the people in this strategic industry can be implemented based on his knowledge and experience as the Chief Executive Officer of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) before this.

“When I was in PNB, nine million Bumiputeras bought PNB trust funds at the value of RM40 billion.

“I did it, not (former Prime Minister) Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad),” he said in his speech at the Cheque Presentation Ceremony for Tamil Schools in Selangor.

On March 6, Abdul Khalid announces that the State Government will be issuing shares for the Selangor water industry if they manage to acquire the management of the water industry in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The State Government has already offered RM9.65 billion to the four concessionaires responsible for managing the water industry in Selangor.

The four companies are; the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas), Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd, Konsortium Abbas Sdn Bhd (Abbas) and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holding (Splash).
