2013 International Converts Conference Trusted and Praised

BANDAR SERI PUTRA, SEPT 9: The 2013 International Converts Conference organised by the Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) received praise from the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim because it addressed the issue of convert’s development based on research on experience from experts involved.

Abdul Khalid said that the approach should be emulated in reaching out to a variety of pressing issues because it helps open up perspectives and generates new ideas.

“I believe that this approach is very thoughtful,” said Abdul Khalid. “This conference presents papers and experience of experts who have studied their efforts to develop converts.

He said this at a press conference after launching the conference. This conference was organised by KUIS, together with the UKM Islam Hadhari Institute and backed by the Selangor Islamic Religious council (MAIS).

Also present was the Reactor of KUIS, Professor Datuk Dr Abd Halim Tamuri and the Secretary of MAIS, Datuk Mohd Misri Idris.

In addition to local studies, the conference which took place from 7 September to 8 September also examined studies from abroad such as from Indonesia and Singapore.

Abdul Khalid expressed confidence that MAIS will come up with the best method to approach the issue of the development of converts after the presentation at the conference is documented for the purpose of reference.

Meanwhile, Abd Halim said that Selangor is among the top states in the country to record non-Muslim converts to Islam every year.

“Last year, statistics showed about 1,500 converts and this year, as of July, almost 1,400 people have converted to Islam.

“Not just Indians and Chinese, but other races such as Kadazan, the people of Sabah, Sarawak, including those from abroad such as the Philippines, have embraced Islam in Selangor,” he said.

CM: Faekah Remains as Secretary

1

BANDAR SERI PUTRA, SEPT 9: Faekah Hussin remains as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Selangor until the Chief Minister’s Office restructuring process is completed, said Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Abdul Khalid explained that this restructuring process is comprehensive and also includes specialisation of fields, which according to him is necessary for the workforce and delivery in the CM’s Office to run smoothly, seamlessly and effectively.

“With this, she (Faekah) will remain in the Chief Minister’s Office but we want to organise all tasks so that they do not overlap,” he said in a press conference after officiating the International Convert’s Development Conference at the Selangor International Islamic College University (KUIS) yesterday.

The restructuring, among others, involves the implementation and delivery of programmes under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) Agenda, the development of affordable housing (RMM), providing assistance to the poor, and rural development.

Previously, the Chief Minister’s Office saw the appointment of Datuk Saifuddin Nasution as the Political Liaison Officer, Mustapa Mohd Talib being assigned to special tasks, and Azman Bidin has been assigned to oversee the Bandar Tun Razak Parliament and the Port Klang State Legislative Assembly.

“We will look into everything and the arrangement will continue. We will assign certain officers to carry out this task,” explained Abdul Khalid.

He said this as there have been rumours that Faekah will be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI).

Faekah left a very lucrative career in the legal field after being called to serve the Selangor State Government by Abdul Khalid in 2010.

She is mentioned as one of the important individuals in the water negotiations between the Federal Government and the State Government, including the acquisition of the water industry from private concessions.

Elaborating, Abdul Khalid said that any changes will only be announced officially after the restructuring process is completed.

“As usual, it is good that we do not announce the things done but to do it (announce) after seeing the results. If we keep being asked when we are going to do it, we will not be focused,” Abdul Khalid explained.

CM: Humanity Solidarity Across Differences

4

SHAH ALAM, SEPT 7: The differences in race and culture, differences in opinions and political affiliation should not be a barrier to unite against tyranny and oppression, stressed Selangor Chief Minster, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said that all parties should set aside differences and equally discuss a solution affecting the Muslim brotherhood, especially in the killing tragedies of the people of Egypt, Syria and Palestine.

“Solidarity is the embodiment of a sense of caring and selfless attitude which guarantees the existence of shared prosperity,” stressed Abdul Khalid in his speech emphasising policies that protect and restore the rights and dignity as human beings.

“The things happening in Syria, Egypt, Palestine and Burma show that people are losing their humanity. Human life no longer has worth. Civilians, men, women and children become victims of bullets, poison gas and chemical weapons,” he said.

Abdul Khalid said this when delivering a speech at the Humanity Solidarity Assembly organised with the State Government at Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam last night.

Also present was the PKR De Factor Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS Vice-President, Datuk Mahfuz Omar, leaders of Malaysian Islamic NGOs such as the Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (Abim), Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (wadah), the IKRAM Association of Malaysia (Ikram), the Malaysian National Association of Muslim Students (PKPIM), and over 5,000 attendees.

“While we are not able to be at the forefront to defend the plight of the oppressed, we can at least show our solidarity as a sign of sympathy towards the plight of those stricken with misfortune and disaster,” said Abdul Khalid.

The programme started with Maghrib prayers and a premier lecture by Ustaz Jel Fathullah Al-Anshori who was specially brought from Indonesia.

The programme continues with prayers of well-wishes and Qunut Nazilah, as well as a presentation of the video ‘Egypt Cries’ and a ‘Tears of Syria’ Flash Mob. Meanwhile, the highlight of the programme was the launching of the ‘Malaysia 4 R4bia’ campaign.

Anwar: Umno-BN Government Should Upgrade Infrastructure Before Making it Compulsory to Pass the English Language

3

SHAH ALAM, SEPT 7: The Umno-BN Government has been urged to improve infrastructure for the learning of the English language by year 2016 before implementing the policy to make it compulsory for students to pass the subject in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM – Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia).

Parti Keadilan Rakyat De Facto Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the absence of adequate learning facilities, especially in rural areas, only adds burden to students and teachers.

“Making it a compulsory to pass in inadequate conditions, including the quality of teachers, learning facilities and library facilities in rural schools, as well as Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools. The policy should be reviewed first,” said Anwar.

Prior to this, the Minister of Education, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that it would be compulsory to pass the English language subject in the SPM by year 2016 in conjunction with the launch of the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2013-2025.

“This is the problem of Ministers and political leaders who do not have continuity with the realities happening at the bottom,” stressed Anwar.

He said this during a press conference after delivering his keynote address at the World Islamic Revival Seminar at the Silver Jubilee Hall at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building.

Also with Anwar was the Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Anwar also reiterated calls from many groups who want the Federal Government to raise and preserve the Malay language by ensuring that all students master the official language well.

“Mastering the Malay language should continue to be improved in terms of quality. This should be clear in policies and it is a master plan which should be done,” he stressed.

CM: Inexcusable – Only Stern Actions For River Spillers

mb

SHAH ALAM, Sept 4th: Any individuals or companies that pollute the environment will not only have to pay for the costs of damage caused by their actions, but must also bear the costs of recovery from the pollution as well.

Such is the proposal by the State Government to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment so as to enforce the principles ordained in the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim firmly expressed his opinion that the move was necessary to prevent cases like the recent oil-dumping in Sungai Selangor, which had caused severe distress on more than 899,931 of Klang Valley residents last week, from recurring ever again.

“The enforcement of environmental laws in this country should be increased, seeing as cases of contamination keep happening because of frequent negligence,” said Tan Sri Khalid at a press conference in the state capital.

The irresponsible actions by the factory operators that caused contamination and a severe damage to the environment and the livelihoods of the state have been grabbing headlines since last week.

Previously, the State Government had said that the Federal Government should make a joint effort with Selangor to combat ‘rogue’ environment activities.

In the meantime, Abdul Khalid said the State Government along with agencies and local authorities will continue to work together to prevent another river pollution from happening again.

“The State Government has directed all local authorities to freeze all applications for carrying out any forms of activities in the river reserve with immediate effect,” said Khalid Ibrahim.

All local authorities have been instructed to monitor all activities in the area, particularly in the river reserve for any unlicensed activities.

Saifuddin To Take The Reins On Rural Development

SUK-Saifudin-MB

SHAH ALAM, SEPT 2nd: PKR Secretary Dato’ Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will be taking the reins for
the rural development programmes in the state, said Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The Selangor Chief Minister revealed that the program was slated for the second term after seeing the success of various welfare programs realised by the State Government through “The People’s Economy” (Merakyatkan Economy Selangor) agenda since its launch in 2008.

It would be an addition to existing programmes to ensure that progress in the rural areas is emphasised through various activities after identifying the target groups that require assist.

“We will run the programme by traveling to every county in the state. Saifuddin will be entrusted with organising the entire thing,” said Khalid Ibrahim to the reporters here yesterday.

Abdul Khalid further asserted that there are no issues with putting Saifuddin to head the task even though the PKR Secretary already has his hands full with other responsibilities.

In fact, Khalid Ibrahim said it was similar to a previous situation back when he was serving Guthrie whilst he was tasked with developing Islamic economy that see him out working in the field.

“To him, staying put in the office is equivalent to doing nothing,” said Khalid Ibrahim.

Khalid Ibrahim also said that the State Government will be giving a briefing on the election manifesto so as to clear up any confusions about the Coalition’s programme.

The program will be running under Selangor and the state’s ADUN.

Three Water Treatment Plants Back In Operation, CM Cautioned Syabas Of Any Pollution Claims

SHAH ALAM 31st AUGUST: The Sungai Selangor Plants (SSP) 1, 2 and 3 are fully operational again early this morning after a temporary closure yesterday, said Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

The Chief Minister said that water supply can be expected to resume in stages beginning from early afternoon today.

Starting from between 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. last night, he said SSP1 and SSP3 are back in operation after the contamination was brought under control.

Water production at SSP1 and SSP3 had increased the raw water reserve by 5 metres earlier today, between four and six in the morning.

“We can expect clean water supply for the consumers later in the afternoon today in stages,” he said in today’s press statement.

He also reminded Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) to refrain from using the contamination as an excuse for any recurring regional water disruptions.

“We have traced the origin of the contamination to a waste collection vehicle service centre in Rawang. Preliminary investigations have shown that used diesel oil were being disposed into the drainage system, which flowed into the river nearby,” he said.

Thanking the staff members of the agencies involved , Abdul Khalid credited the Department of Environment (DOE), Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selanagor (SPLASH) for the outstanding investigation work.

“Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) have impounded the centre, and a stop-work order has been issues,” said Abdul Khalid.

CM: Selangor Supports Largest Undocumented Immigrant Bleaching Operation

SHAH ALAM 28th AUGUST: The State Government supports the authorities’ concentrated effort to pursue an estimated 500,000 undocumented immigrants in the country, beginning from 1st September.

This is, by far, the largest bleaching operation ever initiated by the Immigration Department.

The states of Selangor, Pulau Pinang, Johore, and Kuala Lumpur will be the operation’s focal points of search that will run through the next three months.

According to Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Selangor reportedly has the highest number of immigrants. The State Government is clearly hoping that the operation will succeed in helping the authorities ascertain the true figure of undocumented immigrants currently residing in Selangor.

“We will require everyone’s cooperation to address security management issues, and every resource relevant to immigrants,” he said during a press conference that was held after an EXCO meeting.

It was reported that the Immigration Department will be leading the operation, along with interagency cooperation from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Volunteers of Malaysian People (RELA), Civil Defence Department, Department of National Registration, and local authorities.

It is estimated that 135,000 personnels will be involved with the nationwide bleaching programme.

Establish Integrity Unit To Monitor Civil Servant Misconduct

SHAH ALAM, 27th AUGUST: In a concentrated effort to cultivate high-quality work culture and strong ethics in governance, the State Government has established an Integrity Unit (IU) to counter any form of misconducts and criminal behaviour among civil servants.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the special unit is going to be tasked by the Secretary of State, under the supervision of YB Dato’ Haji Mohammed Khusrin bin Haji Munawi. Two officers of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have been assigned to the unit.

“Our working relationship with the MACC is ongoing. This cooperation is going to help us monitor and prevent corruption and abuse of power,” said Khalid.

He was speaking at a press conference after opening the Selangor Government Department’s Monthly Assembly at the Silver Jubilee Hall, Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.

This new approach serves to prove Khalid Ibrahim administration’s commitment in producing professional work culture, and at the same time increasing public confidence in the State Government’s services.

According to Khalid Ibrahim, this unit will be fully functional come September or October.

“I have been informed that the MACC officers have agreed to be placed as members of the unit,” said Khalid.

He said the concept of integrity emulates the former Chief Minister of Kelantan, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who strived to maintain clean administration in Kelantan for the past 23 years.
