SHAH ALAM, 8 Jan: Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in areas of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will enjoy the convenience, with a special van, of free transportation to hospitals.

According to MBSA Mayor Daruk Mohd Jaafar Atan, the vehicle, that has a high roof, also can be used by the elderly and dialysis patients.

“Because we have limited vehicles, therefore we have to limit transportation to only hospitals at the moment.

“Those who seek the service have to register and make appointments a week prior to the visit,” Mohd Jaafar explained in a press conference at his office this morning.

However, MBSA will only provide to and fro transport only, while any hospital arrangements have to be managed themselves.

“Therefore we also require that they are accompanied by a family member or acquaintance to make hospital arrangements,” added Mohd Jaafar.

Earlier he had received a cheque donation by the Shah Alam Rotary Club worth RM60,000 which was presented by the club President, Datuk Vincent Tang.

The donation was the Rotary Club’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effort to bear half the allocations to buy the van which is estimated to cost RM120,000.

Meanwhile MBSA will fund the remaining cost of the van.
