PKR Launches People’s Institute, Create Better Policies

SUBANG JAYA, 21 FEB: Today, PKR launched the People’s Institute (Institut Rakyat) to carry out research and to formulate policies towards social justice and a sustainable future for the country.

The think-tank will gather public opinion, the civil society, policy makers, members of corporate and public sectors through discussion workshops, forums, and publications of work papers to create policies.

According to PKR leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the People’s Institute with the slogan ‘Towards A New Malaysia’ was created as a result of insistence from PKR youth leaders.

“This is something new, from time to time, politicians such as I have to submit to young leaders who want the People’s Institute to be established,” said Anwar before launching the think-tank in front of more than 100 attendees.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the People’s Institute, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail in her press conference said that the People’s Institute will still function as a think-tank and government critics even if PKR governs Putrajaya.

Apart from Dr Wan Azizah as the Chairman, also on the People’s Institute board of directors are Dr Syed Husin Ali and the Deputy Chairman, Dr Mehnun Siraj and three others.

Earlier, the launch ceremony of the People’s Institute was held at the Subang Empire Hotel in the afternoon and was attended by several academics, economists and leaders of PKR.

Among those in attendance included PKR Vice-President, Nurul Izzah Anwar, PKR Strategy Director, Mohd Rafizi Ramli, former PKR Deputy President, Dr Syed Husin Ali, Economist, Dr Jomo Sundaram and economics expert, Azrul Azwar Ahmad Tajudin.
