KLANG, 17 Apr: Placing the Vice-President of Perkasa, Zulkifli Noordin, to challenge Khalid Samad for the Shah Alam Parliamentary seat proves that Umno-BN is bankrupt of candidates.
The incumbent of Sri Andalas constituency, Dr Xavier Jayakumar said that Khalid will have an easy path in defending the seat won in the last election because the public knows that Zulkifli is not a leader who can be expected to safeguard the welfare of the people.
“This proves that Umno-BN is bankrupt. There are no other candidates. Candidates who jump like frogs are taken. This is standard for Umno-BN.
“Khalid Samad does not have to hold a talk or campaign. There is no fear as he will definitely win. The Malays, Indians and Chinese in Shah Alam will not support Zulkifli Nordin,” he said in a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) talk here last night and it was attended by more than 1,000 people.
During the 12th General Elections, Zulkifli contested using the PKR ticket for the Kulim Bandar Baharu Parliamentary seat and won with a majority of 5,583 votes, defeating the Umno-BN candidate, Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fafzir.
However, he later left PKR and became an Independent member and was close to Umno-BN.
Dr Zavier added that Umno-BN is also facing problems at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) stage when they only listed four old candidates and the remaining are new faces.
According to him, the statement is evident when Datuk Seri Najib Razak personally admitted to the mistakes made by Umno-BN in governing the country for over 56 years through a leaflet that was sent to the homes of voters with the words ‘Learn from mistakes’.
Dr Xavier also reminded the people that it is believed that the 13th General Elections will be the dirtiest ever carried out in the country.
He said that the major changes championed by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) are for open and fair politics that is strengthened by true facts to be discussed together.
However, Umno-BN leaders find it difficult to accept changes when they closed media space to PR despite claiming that this country has all the facilities with commendable progress.
“Najib and Umno-BN are very afraid. This is Umno-BN’s problem currently. We ask for a debate, they gave us a pornographic video,” he said.
