Yunus to Meet With Ministry of Youth and Sports

SHAH ALAM, JUNE 6th – The Selangor State Government will soon be meeting with the Youth and Sports Ministry to cooperate and direct the development of sports within the state.

Youth and Sports Exco, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said that during his previous term, his team had faced several situasions in regards to youth and sports where they had been marginalized by the central government.

Yunus expressed his hoped to work with the newly appointed Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin as the latter has adopted an open mind in dealing with youths and this may allow a smoother process.

“We have planned for a meeting where it is hoped that funds from the central government to the state government will not be suffer marginalization .”

According to Yunus, the official meeting will take place next week as the official documents have been posted and all that remains is a response from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Yunus’s statement was taken after the Selangor State Sports Award Ceremony 2012 at the Concorde Hotel Grand Ballroom.
Yunus also says that it is right for the central government to sideline the state from the development of sports as the state has produced some of the best athletes whjo have contributed to successes in the field of sports for the country.

“Funds from the central government should not be decided based on political borders if we are to develop sports in our country.”

For his second term, the Pakatan Rakyat administration has adopted the concept of ‘Sports for All’ to continue developing the role of sports within the state.

“We have emphasised on sporting activities of high prestige where the efforts of the state in generating good athletes will become an example to other states.”

“The state is ready to provide funds for the development and upgrading of facilities for sporting activities,” Yunus announced.
