The Public has been Invited to Celebrate the International Youth Day on 24 August

SHAH ALAM, August 19: The public has been invited to join in the celebration of the International Youth Day on August 24 (Saturday).

The Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said that the celebration will be held at the Shah Alam Independence Square starting from 7.00am to 12am.

Also held concurrently will be the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration and Merdeka Threshold celebration.

According to Dr Ahmad, the theme ‘Integrity” was selected so that the younger generation can appreciate the principle of the national reform agenda.

He added that among the events organised would be an information session on the Egyptian crisis issue and a Solat Hajat (prayer of well-wishes) to ask for peace in Egypt.

The will also be a dialogue session with the former Chief Minister of Kelantan, Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, and also a special programme with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“We will also confer the Local Youth Movers (Pebt) award,” he said.

He said that visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of food for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr) celebrations which will be provided by the local authorities.

“We target for over 10,000 to attend this programme and hopefully, more than that number will come since last year, 50,000 people attended the main programme which was the programme with Ustaz Azhar Idrus,” he said.

He said that a number of sporting events will be held such as Paintball, Walk Hunt, Cycling Hunt, Basketball 3 on 4, a Football Clinic, a Public Speaking Competition on ‘Corruption’, the Youth and Sports Exco Chess Cup Tournament, the Blast of the Band Competition and a Cup-Cake Decoration Contest as well as a Felt Fabric Craft Contest.
