CM: Water Enough in Kuala Langat, But Lacking in KKB Dam

SHAH ALAM, 22 Apr: The State Government stands by its opinion that the offer made by the Negeri Sembilan Government to supply to Selangor is unsuitable for consideration.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that the offer is only able to make a small impact while the cost requires is quite high.

Therefore, he said that it would be better for the State Government to use existing resources to meet the demand in Selangor and its surrounding areas.

“We have enough water in the area of Langat, but not enough in the Selangor Dam at Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB), so if we want to take water from Negeri Sembilan there, it is quite far and the cost is also quite high.

“If it is near KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sepang), it is alright, but what is available now is not enough at KKB.

“Even the amount of water offered is only five percent of the solution,” he said in a press statement here.

Prior to this, he launched the ‘Let’s Read for 10 Minutes’ programme, which was also attended by the Executive Councillor of Education, Dr Halimah Ali and the Director of PPAS, Mastura Muhamad.

Commenting on the cloud seeding efforts, Abdul Khalid said that he is always ready to perform cloud seeding in the Sungai Selangor Dam area, which is not critical, if conditions are suitable.

“The heavy rainfall at the moment is not at the dam, but when clouds cross the dam, which has an area of 600 hectares, we perform cloud seeding.

“There are rain clouds, and it is raining every day in Selangor. There is no issue with the Shah Alam reservoir. There is even rain in Kuala Lumpur. But it is critical in Kuala Kubu Baru (Sungai Selangor Dam),” he added.
