New tint proposal ends in Glenmarie?

SHAH ALAM, 11 June: The Federal Government has been urged to provide clarification on the latest status regarding the use of tinted glass, whether using the old or new method, before the massive police operation begins on June 16.

The Deputy Director of the People’s Mobilisation Agency, Zulhazmi Shariff, said that searches on the E-Federal Gazette official portal found no trace of the new gazetting method.

He said that the government’s move to delay the announcement and the gazetting of the new method has an impact on consumers, especially motorists.

“If the government announces it close to the time of the police operation, motorists will be crowding at accessory shops,” he said in a press statement.

He questioned the move by the government of taking too long, while the Deputy Minister of Transport, said that workshop results should be extended to ministers for attention, and if approved, it will be implemented immediately.

On May 15, the Bukit Aman Traffic Unit Chief, SAC Mohd Fuad Abd Latif, informed that a large-scale operation, in relation to tinted windows, will be carried out on June 16.

He then issued a warning to motorists to comply with the existing law, the Motor Vehicles Rules (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) 1991, which allows the tinting of the windscreen of a car to be at 30% and other windows, 50%, and action will be taken for failure to comply.

As a result, various reactions have been received from consumers and related agencies.

At the end of the workshop, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, informed that all suggestions and feedback will be submitted to the Transport Minister for action.

The results of the workshop, among others, suggested for the Visible Light Transmission (VLT) for the rear passenger windows and the rear windshield to be reduced to 30%, compared to the previous VLT of 50%, while the front windscreen remains at 70%.

“Consumers and vehicle owners are still waiting for the government’s decision. Where will it end? Will the results of this workshop only end in Glenmarie? We shall wait together,” he said.
