Abdul Khalid expresses condolences to Sharifah Aini’s family

SHAH ALAM, 5 JULY: Earlier this morning, the nation received shocking news regarding the death of well-known singer, Datuk Sharifah Aini who passed away at the Damansara Specialist Centre.

The sad news was shared on social media such as Twitter and Facebook which mostly conveyed their condolences and grievances after her passing as she is considered as a mega star in the nation’s music industry.

Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim also offered his condolences to family members of the deceased Sharifah Aini, and also prayed that her soul will rest in peace.

“Received sad news that Datuk Sharifah Aini, one of the best vocalist of our nation had just passed away.”

“I would like to offer my condolences to the family members of the deceased. I pray that God will bless her soul. Al-fatihah,” he wrote on Twitter.

The deceased, who is also known as Kak Pah, 61, passed away peacefully around 1.26 earlier this morning due to lung infections.

The body will be brought to the At Taqwa Mosque of Taman Tun Dr Ismail after ‘Subuh’ prayers and is expected to be cremated at Bukit Kiara Cemetery before ‘Zohor’ prayers.

The deceased is survived by a son, Aliff Omar.

She first contracted lung fibrosis two years ago and was hospitalized on the 30th of June for breathing difficulties.

She first rose to fame after winning the 1968 Bintang RTS competition in Singapore with the song ‘Tiga Malam’. She signed her first record deal with EMI and stayed with the label for a good 38 years.

Kak Pah has recorded 93 albums, including 7 English albums and her popular hits includes ‘Seri Dewi Malam, Hapuslah Air Matamu, Bunga Tanjung and Kau Tinggi Di Awan Biru’.

Due to these achievements, Kak Pah was credited in the Malaysian Book of Records as a singer that has the longest career with a recording label and owns 135 albums. She also received the title of Nation’s Singing Diva in 2006.
