SHAH ALAM, 17 Nov: The people should play an important role in maintaining the cleanliness because there are some people who like littering, which cause these places to become mosquito breeding grounds.

Private employee, Adi Amirul, 34, said that the awareness of hygiene is important in the effort to curb the spread of dengue, which is increasing.

He said that he was once suspected of having dengue and had to bear the pain for a week, hence, he does not want such things to happen to others.

“Since then, I always made sure that my house compound is free from unused items that can become Aedes breeding grounds,” he said when met by Selangor Kini.

Despite not being held in ward, since the incident, it made him more disciplined to maintain the cleanliness around.

Private employee, Herwan Rais, 32, wants the public to not depend on the local authorities to give attention to the cleanliness of the environment.

He said that most residential areas pay less attention to the matter of cleanliness, especially of drains.

He said that the people tend to be dependent on the local authorities to clear the drain areas on grounds that it is not fully their responsibility.

“We usually see water collecting in flower pits, old drums, but we are less aware when the water in drains are collection and not flowing well. This is also a contributory factor to the breeding of Aedes,” said Herwan who has been residing in Shah Alam since 2008.

He added that the people should respond to the call by the state government to maintain the cleanliness together and control the spread of dengue.

According to the Ministry of Health’s portal, as of the 46th week, dated November 15, 44,957 dengue cases have been registered through lab testing in Selangor, with 66 deaths.
