CM: Prevent Dengue through ‘Terjah and Destroy’

SHAH ALAM, 3 Nov: The state government will practice the method of ‘terjah and destroy’ (terjah is a pop culture term typically used when a celebrity is ambushed by paparazzi) to combat dengue that is happening in an alarming number across Selangor.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that it is the primary focus of the state government because this issue has a direct impact on the safety of the people.

He said that an action plan will be formulated to deal with it after the state government receives the report released by the Selangor State Health Department.

“This plan will involve all agencies, particularly the Selangor State Health Department, District Offices, Local Authorities and all related parties.

“We hope with the launch of the action plan and campaign, which will be done on a large scale, and a premier gotong royong starting November 16, we can help to reduce dengue in Selangor,” he said in a media conference today.

He said this after launching the Selangorku Free of Dengue Action Plan 2014 and the Gotong-Royong Mega Programme: “Tarjah and Destroy Aedes in Selangor 2014”.

Azmin said that several steps have been outlined, such as additional support from increasing facilities to combat Aedes mosquitoes at the district level, prioritising the cleaning of solid waste and the participation of leaders at all levels of society, from schools to public offices.

Earlier in his speech, Azmin said that the state government will focus on dengue cases, in addition to the issue of waste, potholes and flood.

“These four things must be solved within three months.

“Although my office is on the 21st floor, but 80 percent of my work is going down to see the people’s problems,” he said.
