Haze: Two areas in Sarawak record unhealthy readings

SHAH ALAM, 17 Oct: Two areas in Sarawak today recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings of over 100.

A check on the Department of Environment (DOE) website found that as of 9 am, Kuching recorded an API reading of 107, while Samarahan recorded a reading of 106.

However, many other areas are in the green zone with moderate API readings, including Banting with 78, Kuala Selangor (63), Port Klang (83), Petaling Jaya (61) and Shah Alam (72).

Overall, 34 areas recorded moderate readings while 16 others are in the healthy zone.

API readings between 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

The public can refer to apims.doe.gov.my for current API readings.
