SHAH ALAM, JUL 18: For a participation fee of RM1,500, a couple could organise a wedding under the Mass Wedding Programme “Kemuncak Destinasi Cinta 2016” such as the one held at Bukit Jelutong Mosque, Shah Alam recently.

Wan Muhammad Amirul Wan Yusmera, 23, a clerk, said he was lucky to be included in the list of couples for the event.

“Programmes like this – where couples are not burdened by trifles and prioritise compulsory matters – are rare. Most couples are unable to continue with wedding arrangements due to high costs.

“This programme provides a lawful marriage, including payment for marriage registrar, ceremonial meal for the bride and groom, a wedding cake, a wedding dais and other gifts for only RM1,500 per couple,” he said to SelangorKini.

His wife, Nor Fahanah Zamri, 21, a student, said both sides of the family supported their choice for a mass wedding.

“They did not stop us, as I am still studying and this programme would cut costs for both parties.

“With this programme, we get to do what is compulsory, and our wedding banquet can be organised when I graduate at end of the year,” she said.

Meanwhile, civil servant Malik Mustaqim, 33, said the programme assists the lower income groups in particular.

“There are many benefits for couples, especially in cost-savings besides being easy and simple to organise.

“I hope the Selangor Government will continue to implement such programmes to elevate the burden of high wedding costs for young people and to curb the social problems affecting this group,” he said.
