Bridge burning incident highly regrettable: Culprit faces strict punishment

KAPAR, AUG 25: The vandalism act of burning a public bridge by irresponsible parties here at Jalan Kampung Kebun Baru, Batu 5, Kapar is highly regrettable.

Sementa Assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi gave a stern warning to the culprit that strict actions will be taken if the act is repeated.

“We have made a police report, asking police to investigate the individual or group who had preformed this immoral act, so that this culprit can be brought to justice.”

“This action does zero benefit to the public here. Furthermore, it causes an inconvenience as it is the main road to Taman Kelana village,” she said in a press conference, on August 24.

Also present yesterday were representatives from the District and Land Office, Public Works Department (JKR), Water and Drainage Department and Batu 4 Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK).

Daroyah said the recent vandalism act is the second since a similar incident, which happened in August 2015.

“Last year, RM20,000 was approved to fix the bridge and the same amount was also approved to upgrade the bridge. However, due to the unfortunate incident which yesterday, it has increased the cost to RM70,000,” she said.

She added that the state government is also in the midst of upgrading the bridge to a concrete bridge with a cost estimated at RM2 million.
