Awareness against Aedes still low

SHAH ALAM, SEP 9: There are many among the public who are still taking efforts to eradicate Aedes and reduce dengue cases in Selangor lightly.

Kota Anggerik Assemblyman Yaakob Sapari said that this was obvious when only a handful of Pusat Komersial Sekyen 7 residents joined the ‘operasi terjah denggi’ organised by the State Government recently.

He said this is regrettable as the area concerned recorded the highest number of dengue cases in Shah Alam.

“Recently, I joined ‘operasi terjah denggi’ with Dr Daroyah Alwi at Pusat Komersial Sekyen 7 as the area is mostly occupied by tenants and students from higher education institutions.

“We did a night operation to ensure all residents were at home, knowing very well most of them will be at work or at classes during the day.  However, only a few people joined us in the operation.

“Many did not bother about what was happening,” he posted on Facebook.

Yaakob said that out of three houses visited, two were found with Aedes larvae.

He also estimated that at least 75% of the residents would be found with Aedes larvae breeding in their homes if the operation can be fully performed.

“Our people certainly do not care about what is happening although it’s in their own homes.

“We cannot expect other people to clean up our own homes,” he said regretfully.
