Clean up illegal rubbish dumping sites

BY: LIZAWATI MADFA

SUBANG JAYA, SEP 9: The cost of cleaning up illegal dumping sites in Taman Perindustrian Puchong could cost hundreds of thousands of ringgit.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Corporate Communications Officer Muhammad Azli Miswan said he had to take other initiatives to minimise the cost.

“To reduce MPSJ’s burden, we decided to bury the balance of the rubbish here.

“Otherwise, the cost which have now reached hundreds of thousands will increase further and we have to pay contractors to take out the rubbish from this area and dispose of it,” he said to SelangorKini.

On September 8, he join Kinrara Assemblyman Ng Sze Han on a visit to the site.

The illegal dumping site stretched as long as 1.3 kilometres along the banks of Klang River, which is part of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s (JPS) river reserve.

Azli said that MPSJ cleaned up other agency’s areas on the basis of social responsibility.

“Usually the preferred areas to illegally dump rubbish are not on MPSJ land but on JPS land, government land or private land.

“But we cleaned it up for our mutual benefit,” he said.
