SHAH ALAM, 10 Jan: Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Hak Air Untuk Rakyat (Hayat – Water Rights For The People) wants a detailed investigation to be carried out on the Water Services Commission (SPAN) and the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor) on the issue of the water crisis in Ampang.

Hayat President, Arshad Ahmad said that the investigation should be done by the Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police to ensure that the water supply outage is not a sabotage committed by any party intending to discredit the State Government.

Previously, Syabas claimed that five water pumps in Wangsa Maju broke down causing an outage of water supply for the residents around Ampang and Cheras since two weeks ago.

“We cannot accept the reasons given by Syabas because it is Syabas’ responsibility to conduct planning and periodic monitoring.

“Failure after failure of Syabas’ system in recent periods have raised many questions, for example the failure of the pump houses in Wangsa Maju and Pudu Hulu.

“Why did all the pumps break down? Is it a sabotage of any party to provoke the people’s outrage and eventually blame the State Government,” he said in a media conference after joining a peaceful protest against Syabas at Wisma Rozali.

About 50 people around Ampang were present to urge Syabas to solve the problem.

Among the affected areas are Taman Dagang, Taman Cahaya, Pandan Jaya, Taman Nirwana and Ampang Mewah.
