SHAH ALAM, 22 JAN: Selangor Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM) today urged all the people of Selangor to attend the assembly to reject the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor) as a water management company in this state.

The assembly which will be held at the compound of Sultan Sulaiman Mosque, Klang, will be held after the Friday prayers on 25 Jan.

According to a statement by the Selangor SAMM Coordinator, Azhar Achil, the assembly which is jointly organised with the Selangor AMK has also gotten cooperation from the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat.

“The people of Selangor are forced to subscribe to services by Syabas, which does not have expertise in the management of water supply, causing the public to get unsatisfactory services.

“(And) now, experiences of water disruptions are coupled with an unreasonable tariff rate which is extremely burdensome,” said Azhar in a statement.

Previously, the State Government made efforts to acquire Syabas when the concessionaire failed to provide satisfactory services to the consumers in Selangor.

However, efforts were deadlocked when the Federal Government refused to cooperate with the State Government.
