SHAH ALAM 19 OKT: Agensi berita antarabangsa, Reuters melaporkan sebuah yayasan diterajui bintang Hollywood Leonardo DiCaprio berkata ia sedia memulangkan balik sumbangan dan hadiah kepadanya sekiranya ia didapati berasal daripada skandal 1MDB.
DiCaprio berkata beliau sedang bekerjasama dengan pihak berkuasa Amerika Syarikat bagi menyiasat sama ada wang tersebut datang dari sumber boleh dipersoalkan, menurut kenyataan itu.
Julai lalu, saman sivil di AS oleh Jabatan Kehakiman menuduh sebuah syarikat penerbitan Hollywood menggunakan AS$100 juta daripada dana 1MDB bagi membiayai filem dibintangi DiCaprio, “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
Kenyataan wakil DiCaprio berkata beliau mendapat tahu mengenai siasatan itu menerusi media.
“Beliau serta merta mengarahkan wakilnya menghubungi Jabatan Kehakiman bagi menentukan sama ada beliau atau yayasannya, Yayasan Leonardo DiCaprio (LDF), pernah menerima apa-apa hadiah atau sumbangan kebajikan secara langsung atau tidak yang berkait dengan pihak yang dinamakan.
“Dan sekiranya ada, akan mengembalikan hadiah atau sumbangan itu secepat mungkin,” kata kenyataan itu.
Syarikat Red Granite Pictures sebelum ini berkata setahunya tidak ada wang yang diterimanya secara tidak sah.
LDF yang ditubuhkan pada 1998 menyokong pelbagai usaha berkait alam sekitar.
Pada Ogos, Hollywood Reporter melaporkan yayasan tersebut menerima dana AS$2 juta tunai dan sumbangan lain daripada salah seorang rakyat Malaysia yang dinamakan dalam saman DoJ dan terlibat dalam penubuhan 1MDB.
DiCaprio, memenangi Oscar pada 2016 selepas penglibatannya dalam filem “The Revenant”, juga merupakan “duta keamanan” Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu, tetapi kini menerima tekanan daripada beberapa aktivis alam sekitar berhubung kaitannya dengan skandal 1MDB.
Jurucakap DiCaprio berkata pelakon itu memilih tidak bercakap mengenai perkara itu bagi menghormati siasatan yang masih berjalan yang ada kaitan dengan “badan kebajikan, hospital dan individu yang mungkin tidak secara sedar menerima dana yang dipersoalkan”.
