Zainudin Maidin’s Attack on BJ Habibie is Superficial and Vilely Prejudiced

SHAH ALAM, 12 Dec: The statement by the Former Information Minister, Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin that attacked the former Indonesian President, BJ Habibie, is racist and does not represent the opinion of the masses.

PKR Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Zainuddin is arrogant and racist which is one of the causes of the crisis between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“I was informed and affected by the ugly attack by Zainuddin Maidin on the former Indonesian President, the Most Respected BJ Habibie was published by Utusan Malaysia, the Umno-owned newspaper.

“The writings of Zainuddin Maidin is well known to be superficial and he represents Umno elites who are vilely prejudiced towards Indonesia,” Anwar said in his media statement.

Anwar firmly said that many already know Zainuddin’s background of being the former editor of the Umno-owned newspaper, Utusan Malaysia.

Anwar said that Zainuddin often points fingers and labels groups that are not aligned with Umno as being ‘traitors’.

“Zainuddin was the only senior minister who lost in the last general elections to a candidate from PKR.

“Thus we can understand the anxiety, resentment and his motives in launching such attacks,” said Anwar.

On 6 December, BJ Habibie or Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was present at a dinner organised by the Selangor government in Shah Alam, which was also attended by PKR leaders.

He also gave a lecture to students and academics which was held at the University of Selangor (UNISEL) on political and economic developments in the region.

Habibie who became the third president of Indonesia is famous for his measures of opening democratic spaces in the country by allowing freedom of expression, association and media freedom.

PKR Submits Corruption Evidence of Sabah Timber Concession to ICAC Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR,11 Dec: PKR sent a delegation to Hong Kong in efforts to reopen the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) investigations on charges of alleged corruption involving Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

The delegation which was led by PKR Strategy Director, Mohd Ramli Rafizi, will bring back evidence of money transactions from companies that obtained Sabah timber concessions to accounts belonging to businessman, Michael Chia.

Rafizi showed money transfer slips which he claims are the deposit payments of companies that managed to obtain timber concessions.

Among the companies that received timber concessions from the Sabah State Government and had paid deposits worth millions of ringgit to Michael include Ever Fame Enterprise Limited, Borion Enterprise Limited and Wayco Enterprise Limited.

“The existence of accounts belonging to Michael and money transfers made by concession holders confirmed that Michael had acted as a middleman in collecting revenue from logging concessions issued by the Sabah government,” said Rafizi.

The said transactions involved UBS Bank accounts in Hong Kong and accounts in Shanghai Banking (HSBC) in Singapore.

Rafizi claims to have evidence of the money transfers that are varying in amounts where the account that recorded the highest amount was USD 1,727,928.33 (RM 5,290,210.18) on 18 September 2007, while the other accounts were amounting around USD 100,000 (RM 306,011.81) to USD 700,000 (RM 2,141,736.33).

Rafizi also showed the media a transaction worth AU $2,350 (RM 7,537.51) to an account of Musa’s son, Mohammed Hayssam in Australia by Zenique Investment Ltd.

In 2008, Michael Chia was arrested at the Hong Kong International Airport on suspicion of trying to smuggle out illegal funds worth S$ 16 million (RM 40 million).

According to media reports at the time, Michael claimed that the money belonged to Musa.

However, ICAC said through the statement of the Chief Public Prosecutor of Hong Kong, Kevin Zevros, that ICAC will not continue investigations regarding this money because they had failed in obtaining cooperation from the Malaysian authorities to gather information and evidence.

Last October, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said that the money was a contribution to Sabah Umno and not to Musa.

Anwar Symbol of People’s Movement Towards Change and Unity

PETALING JAYA, 11 Dec: Senator Dr Syed Husin Ali described Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a symbol of the people’s movement towards change and unity in this country.

This is because according to him, Anwar, who is also the PKR Opposition Leader, is a key medium in voicing and bringing the people’s needs of wanting political, economic and social change in Malaysia.

He said that the people’s acceptance of Anwar as an icon of change has sparked concern amongst leaders of Umno-BN.

“In our desire for change, we are fortunate to have a leader who is greatly admired. The people accept him as a symbol and thus Umno-BN is too scared to hold the 13th General Elections (GE-13).

“In discussing events in Baling, Kedah in 1974, we have a symbol of leadership where he (Anwar) suffered tyranny imposed upon the Baling (freedom) fighters,” he said during the lecture that signified the commemoration of the demonstration in Baling at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Hall, here last night.

The lecture was organized by the Keadilan Youth Wing (AMK) and was attended by activists including Prof Gurdial Singh, Kamarazzaman Yaakob and Syed Hamid Ali.

In the meantime, Syed Husin also called on the people to be united in the drive for change from the administrative angle after being ruled by Umno-BN for over 50 years.

He said that the question of unity does not only involve specific groups, but all parties should participate in it regardless of status, race or religion.

“The poverty status has yet to change even though it has been more than 50 years and in the same period of time, the government has not changed. We need to change and in the present situation, the people want change.

“The government is afraid of unity and change. The question unity is not between Umno and PAS, not between the Malay people only. If we want real unity, it has to involve all citizens from all walks of life,” he added.

“On of the purposes of this reserve is to be used on the people of Selangor.

Aminulrasyid: In the name of Justice, Lawyers Must File Plea

SHAH ALAM,5th DEC : National lawyers have been urged to file a plea in regards to the High Court’s Decision here are Shah Alam to release Corporal Jenain Subi, aged 49, in the fatal shooting of a teenage boy of fifteen years, Aminulrasyid Hamzah two years ago.

Lawyer, N. Surendran who was available for a comment said that the government, the lawyers and the police fully responsible because the family of victim has not been given justice.

“From the beginning, the police has been covering what actuallyhappened by giving false statements about a ‘parang’ in the car.”

“Also, some suggested that Aminulrasyid was driving the car towards the police and this has all been proven untrue,” Surendran added.

He explains that what is most disappointing is that the police have never offered apology in regards to this case.

“We have requested that national lawyers file a plea as soon as possible and that the government and the police offer a sincere apology openly to the family of the deceased for making false claims,” he said.

He also expressed that he is waiting for further instruction from Aminurasyid’s family in regards to the case.

He said that the case clearly highlights the need for Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) by the government to allow investigations of misconduct of the police force.

“Some of the main reasons for this injustice is because of the lack of IPCMC,” he added.

Judge Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebit who considered Jenain’s claims decided in his favour after finding that Jenain had no motive or intention to murder the teen.

Abdul Rahman was satisfied with the explanation of the police that he had only fired a bullet in order to stop the proton Isawara driven by Aminulrasyid, and not to murder the boy.

The judge also mentioned that there is no prima facie case proven for Jenain and that police should not have been asked to defend themselves.

When giving the sentence, Judge Latifah Mohd Tahar held that the use of weaponry by Jenain whichended with 21 shots was an extreme act and not reasonable under the circumstances, even if it was done to stop the car driven by Aminulrasyid.

Umno Assembly Does Not Focus on the People’s Problems, Only Sows Hatred

PETALING JAYA, 3 Dec: The Umno General Assembly which ended yesterday did not focus on government policies and problems of the people, instead concentrating on igniting racialism, including trying to bring back ‘the ghost of May 13’.

Umno’s action is due to the rising sense of fear that Umno leaders will lose power when people reject them in the upcoming 13th General Election, says PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The act of calling back the May 13 ‘ghost’ was to create hatred between the Malays and non-Malays.

“Next, they will cultivate a culture of fear among the people that the bloodshed will happen if Umno loses power,” Anwar said in a press release.

Anwar also said the action was provocative and may be regarded as a crime.

The statement was issued by Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil in her opening speech at the Wanita Umno assembly meeting last week.

Anwar claims that Shahrizat’s statement is an attempt to revive her political career after being pressured to resign in regards to the National Feedlot Corporation scandal.

In the three-day conference, the Umno president who is also the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, also took the opportunity to attack Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders.

“Where are the ideas for the economy and social justice, health, housing and education?

“If he possesses a strong reason to oppose Pakatan Rakyat, he should accept my challenge to confront and debate. So that the people can evaluate who is telling the truth and who is fond of cheating.

“Do not hide behind your cheap propaganda machine and be a real man as the Prime Minister and come down to the court to debate with me,” said Anwar.

Najib also claimed that Anwar is a proxy for foreign powers, the United States and China, and at the same time, apostasy will run rampant and turn Malaysia into a Christian nation if Umno goes extinct in the next election.

Azmin: Najib Most Spendthrift PM in Spending Petronas Funds

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 Nov: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is the most spendthrift Finance Minister, by forcing Petronas to contribute the highest dividend rates in the country’s history.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali accounted that, except for Najib, there has never been a Finance Minister or Prime Minister who has extensively used Petronas funds.

Based on the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Statics, throughout Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s term as Finance Minister, Petronas had contributed a dividend of RM3.1 billion from 1992 until 1997.

The amount of dividends Petronas contributed when Tun Abdullah Badawi was the Finance Minister was RM9.1 billion in 2004, RM11.0 billion in 2005, RM18.0 for 2006 and RM24.0 billion for 2007.

Meanwhile, during Najib’s term, a sum of RM30.0 billion in dividends have been contributed consistently from 2009 to 2011.

“When Anwar had worked to reduce the national debt, the country spent prudently resulting in income surpassing spending without burdening Petronas and had driven economic growth up to 10 percent. Datuk Seri Najib had taken 10 times more out of Petronas funds.

“The national debt increased five-fold, the budget deficit lasted for 14 years and the economic growth rate is still sluggish at the rate of around four to five per cent,” he said at a press conference at PKR headquarters.

Azmin came forward today to maintain the credibility and ability of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in steering the economy following Najib’s attack yesterday at the Umno general assembly.

Azmin explained that Najib’s economic performance has not once ever surpassed Anwar’s in successfully accelerating economic growth in reaching 9-10 percent during his term as the Minister of Finance.

During Najib’s appointment as the Minister of Finance since 2009, he has reversed the economy’s direction and lead it towards crisis while neighbouring countries such as Indonesia continues to grow rapidly.

In addition, Najib Razak has also failed to overcome debt problems although Anwar had left it in a pretty good shape.

Azmin also said the modus operandi of the attacks against Anwar regarding his economic governance credibility is to use it again for the 13th General Elections (GE-13) to intimidate the people that the country will go bankrupt if Umno-BN is not given the power to rule.

“For the GE-13, people will still choose Pakatan Rakyat. This means that mature people will not be influenced by Umno-BN political propaganda in underestimating the people’s ability to evaluate the performance of the economy under the leadership of Anwar as Finance Minister.

Iskandar: 29 Percent of Abandoned Projects Completed

SHAH ALAM, 26 Nov: Since Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had taken over the state administration last September; the State Government has completed 29% of the 49,451 housing units which was abandoned by Umno-BN.

Housing, Building Management and Squatters Exco member, Iskandar Abdul Samad said that the State Government under the leadership of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has taken the initiative to immediately resolve problems faced by the people.

He explained that the problem was a legacy left by the previous government under the leadership of Umno-BN and that it has been taken over by PR which is concerned about the Selangor people’s needs.

“From the 49,451 abandoned houses like residences and commercial buildings, we have managed to complete 14,245 units as of September which involves 19 areas in the whole of Selangor.”

“Apart from that, the State Government has also planned a state-wide welfare refurbishment programme (Ceria) with a total rotation fund of RM9.7 million where 17 areas involved in the programme for Phase 1 has been fully completed where else 33 of the 52 areas in Phase 2 have been completed apart from Phase 3 which will start with 93 areas,” he said in a press conference at the Annex Hall lobby here, today.

Also present were Meru Assemblyman, Dr Abdul Rani Osman, Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development Exco member, Dr Halimah Ali and Malay Customs, Youth and Sports Exco member, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.

Iskandar said that after more than four years, approximately 92% of apartments have benefitted from the free water initiative which was offered by the State Government.

According to him, an agreement was made with Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) to loosen the clauses to hasten the transition from central metres to individual metres.

“Other efforts undertaken was the establishing of the Permai Task Force to encourage migration such as the Hands-On programme as well as the Concerned Committee to solve problems at multi-levelled housings regarding the individual metre changing process,” he said.

He said that the State Government had also built 1,682 Affordable Housings in areas in Bandar Baru Bangi, Bukit Botak, Kajang and other places.

Apart from that, he said that 1,215 more units will be built in Phase 1 from 2010 to 2013 while 9,481 units will be built from 2014 to 2018.

“Umno-BN’s efforts in building low-cost housing has encountered many problems and the State Government is introducing affordable housings which are better and cheaper compared to the houses under the same, PR1MA concept by the Federal Government,” he added.

PM, SPA Urged to Ensure Civil Servants Are Free From Politics

SHAH ALAM, 16 Nov: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Public Service Commission (SPA) have been urged to take immediate action to ensure that the workers in the Civil Service Department (JPA) are free from political interference.

The request was made by Selayang MP, William Leong following the latest action by JPA when they issued a 24-hour transfer notice to the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) Head, Datuk Zainal Abidin who has been transferred to INTAN (National Institute of Public Administration).

“Not only is this action unprofessional but it also directly restricts public servants from doing their jobs independently, transparently and honestly.”

“This action will not only have negative effects to the State Government and the credibility of the Federal Government, what’s even worse is the effect it would have on people,” he said in his media statement.

Recently, Zainal revealed the approval for the Dolomite Park Avenue project adjacent to the Batu Caves temple which was given on 30th of November 2007 during the Umno-BN administration.

He also released the MPS Full Council meeting minutes which revealed that three MIC council members, Rajakupal Sinnathamby, Jayakumaran Muniandy Govindasamy and Rajandran and A. Kohilan Pillay (now Senator and Deputy Foreign Minister) were among the members of the council that approved the project.

Previously, JPA had made appointments and transfers without first consulting the State Government.

Early last October, JPA announced the transfer of the Petaling Jaya Mayor, Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman, without the knowledge of the State Government.

In addition to that, in 2011 the appointment of Mohd Khusrin Munawi as State Secretary was also made without the consent the Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

“Therefore, I urge the Prime Minister and the SPA to take immediate action to correct this situation.”

“Should they fail, this will confirm that the Government Transformation Programme was indeed an empty slogan and worse yet it is also an insult to promises made by the Prime Minister himself,” he firmly said.
