IGP Should be hauled before the Chief Secretary’s Special Committee

4

SHAH ALAM, 9 Oct: The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, should be hauled before the Chief Secretary’s Special Committee regarding the Auditor-General’s Report 2012 to explain about the loss of firearms and police assets instead of being made a member of the committee.

DAP Parliamentary Chief, Lim Kit Siang said, this matter is important because the Auditor-General, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, denies that the police has given an explanation to the Audit Department about the loss of 44 firearms and other police assets.

“Ambrin refuted reports quoting the Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi that the Ministry had submitted a report to the Auditor-General on the missing police items but this explanation was not included in the 2012 Auditor-General’s Report.

“For this reason, the Inspector-General of Police should be hauled before the Special Committee to give a full and satisfactory explanation for the RM1.33 million worth of police assets which included 44 firearms, 29 vehicles, 156 handcuffs, 26 walkie-talkies, 22 radios and other equipment especially after his earlier dismissive and ludicrous response that the missing guns could have “fallen into the sea”!”

Kit Siang said, it is rather disturbing that there are no signs that the PAC proposes to haul up the IGP to account for the loss of the RM1.33 million worth of police assets, particularly 44 firearms, 156 handcuffs and 29 vehicles.

“Conspicuously absent from the immediate menu of PAC investigations is the loss of RM1.33 million worth of police assets.

“Which is completely against public expectations which would want this item to top the PAC’s priority list of investigations,” he said.

Najib Finally Realises the Danger of the TPPA after the Insistence of the People

3

(PRESS STATEMENT)

Najib Razak has finally realised, due to the insistence of the people, that the TPPA ‘trespasses’ the sovereign rights in formulating regulations and policies, or in a more precise language – Pawning the sovereignty of the nation.

Thankfully, despite the mainstream media not carrying out their proper role in providing specific information about the dangers of the TPPA, effort from various parties have managed to gather the people to put pressure so that the TPPA is not implemented.

SAMM, through working together with the Task Force Against TPPA (BANTAH), is currently touring 12 of the 13 locations throughout the country as a responsibility to provide public awareness about the TPPA. It indirectly has an effect of its own when more and more people understand the complications that may be encountered if the country signs the TPPA.

The last location of the Anti-TPPA Tour will be held this evening at Sekinchan, Selangor, before the premier stage, which will bring together two leading figures of the nation, takes place on 10 October at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

The TPPA issue is not over. MITI is seen as very fervently trying to distort and manipulate facts to cover their weaknesses. At this moment, MITI is also trying to counter the BANTAH-SAMM roadshow. In fact, they are also conducting a propaganda programme at a police college, in order to get support from the police on the TPPA issue.

In similar developments, SAMM has warned that although Najib Razak has apparently ‘realised’ the dangers of the TPPA, Najib’s statement still shows his interest in implementing the TPPA when he said that “the TPP agreement is expected to take a longer time to be finalised”. This means a delay, do not be trapped.

From a different angle, is Najib trying to be a hero when he finally rejects the TPPA? His specious ‘flip-flop’ attitude is very dangerous and is hard to believe. Najib is also seen as not having a stand in the issue of the TPPA.

Therefore, let us join our voices in unison and together reject the TPPA in both of the assemblies;

1. Anti-TPPA Premier Stage: Save Our Nations Sovereignty, Reject TPP | 10 October | 8.30pm| Kg Baru Sultan Sulaiman Club, KL

2. #BantahTPPA Assembly and ‘Welcome’ US Representatives as a sign of Protest | 11 October | 2.00 pm | KLCC Mosque

SAMM invites all Malaysian to not miss the opportunity to show the strength of the people to the government which dares to gamble the fate of the people and the sovereignty of our country.

Bar Council: Zahid Hamidi Does Not Respect the Law

2

SHAH ALAM, 9 Oct: The Bar Council slammed Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi because of his attitude of showing disregard for the law and fundamental human rights.

President of the Bar Council, Christopher Leong said, Zahid’s actions seemed to disregard the country and the government following the disclosure of a recording of the Minister of Home Affair’s speech in Malacca by the media recently.

Previously, Ahmad Zahid, during the Joint Security Briefing Meeting with Community Leaders in Malacca, talked about several sensitive issues including the issue of gangsters being from the Indian community and defending illegal Malay groups associated with criminal activities.

The Bar Council pointed out that three of his confessions in the speech can be considered an offence and is a complete disrespect for the rule of law.

It is related to the order to shoot without warning, admitting that the amendments to the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 providing for detention without trial was his own law and in the event there is no evidence or there is insufficient evidence, the suspects would be put away for two years.

“The statements by the Home Minister are shameful and have brought the Government and the country into disrepute,” said Leong in a statement.

According to Leong, Ahmad Zahid’s action appears to have overstepped the line and possibly committed an offence under the Sedition Act.

“The Home Minister appears to have overstepped the line and possibly committed an offence under the Sedition Act,” he added.

3

SHAH ALAM, 8 Oct: The Tokoh Pendakwah (Missionary Figure) 2013 described the development of Islam in Selangor under Pakatan Rakyat’s administration as amazing following its activeness in organising religious programmes in the state.

According to Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji, this situation is driven by the determination of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), the Mufti Department and all parties involved, in spreading the true understanding of Islam.

“Alhamdulillah (thank God), I have seen the development of Islam, especially in Selangor, over the past five years as being pretty good with programmes organised by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), the Mufti Department and so on.

“Preaching and training efforts provided to new cadres are comprehensive programmes. In fact, they also have an action plan for the next five years, and what results we can achieve in the next 10 years (and), 20 years.

“Missionary programmes in Selangor which have been carried out are done so with a vision, not merely to meet requirements. I am overwhelmed and happy with this development,” said Shah Kirit who converted to Islam in 1996.

In addition, according to Shah Kirit, Selangor has also produced many young preachers from all walks of life from the Institutes of Higher Learning (IPT), Islamic Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and among new converts.

The recipient of the Tokoh Pendakwah Wanita (Woman Missionary Figure) award, Datin Aminah Zakaria said determined efforts from the State Government to increase Islamic programmes should be emulated by other states.

“I hope that the State Government will intensify efforts to educate the people of Selangor and I pray that all measures, expenses used by the State Government for missionary efforts will gain maximum reward from Allah and I ask Allah to receive all deeds by the administrators, the State Government, officers, employees and all of the people of Selangor, to be blessed by Allah,” she said.

At the Preachers Discussion Programme (Program Muzakarah Pendakwah) and the Selangor State Assistant Registrar of Marriages (Penolong Pendaftar Nikah Negeri Selangor) Programme, which was held here at the Silver Jubilee Hall at the State Secretary Building, three people received the Tokoh Pendakwah (Missionary Figure) award.

Shah Kirit, who has experience in preaching all over the world was the Da’wah Ambassador at SABA Islamic Media Sdn Bhd and he has previously received the National Maulidur Rasul (the Birth of the Messenger of Allah) Figure 2012 Award, the Muslim Brotherhood and Sisterhood Figure Award from the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) in 2010 and the Selangor State Our Maal Hijrah (a remembrance of the day Prophet Muhammad S.A.W migrated from Mecca to Madinah) Brotherhood Figure 2012 Award.

Aminah, who is also the President of the Association of Muslimah Ukkhuwwah, Malaysia (Salimah), is also well-known as a presenter of talks on ‘Fiqh Wanita’ on the Ikim FM radio station and several slots on guidance for women in the Al-Hidayah programme on TV3.

She is also frequently invited to deliver religious lectures around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brunei and Singapore.

Whereas the recipient of the Selangor Assistant Registrar of Marriages Figure (Tokoh Penolong Pendaftar Nikah Selangor) Award, Aziz Mahmood, is a former Senior Assistant at Sekolah Kebangsaan (National School) Seri Lanang.

He is also the Deputy Nazir (Inspector) at the At-Tawqwa Mosque at Pekan Banting, and is currently active as a lecturer for Haji (pilgrimage) courses.

These three figures each received a cash prize of RM10,000, certificates, trophies and a set of clothing which was presented by the Executive Councillor in charge of Islamic Affairs in the State of Selangor, Sallehin Mukhyi.

Anwar: PR Will Continue to Fiercely Protest Against PCA Amendments

5

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 Oct: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will continue to protest against the implementation of the Prevention of Crime Act 2013 (Amendments and Extension) despite being approved by the Umno-BN government.

Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, PR will intensify efforts to explain the PCA amendments through the organising of campaigns, forums and dialogues throughout the country.

“We will continue to oppose (the amendments) in all our deliberations in and outside of Parliament to provide information to the people on how desperate the government is in the implementation of this act.

“PR’s stand is that this law is rapacious and will be abused,” he said in a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

Anwar explained that the government’s move to approve the PCA is proven to be an act of arrogance and an ignorance of the principles of natural justice.

He added that the amendments to the PCA is clearly against the Federal Constitution and violates human rights.

Anwar also said that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has no fixed stance and is weak under pressure to a point of having to agree to this new law.

“This is the second blatant lie of the promises made by the Prime Minister on 16 September 2011, when Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that the period of preventive detention will be shortened and the role of the courts will be expanded.

“Including the repeal of the Internal Security Act (ISA) and the Emergency Ordinance (EO), thus ending detention without trial,” he explained in a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

He added that the government previously passed the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 or SOSMA and no the PCA 2013 amendments.

He explained, laws, despite its good intentions to deter crime, cannot be maintained when it sets aside principles of justice and violates fundamental rights recognised by the world.

“The PCA amendment now provides that Section 19A allows for detention without trial. Even Section 15A is seen denying judicial review in any court.

“Fact is, crime in Malaysia is serious. Pakatan Rakyat does not compromise in matters of eradicating crime. However, it should be dealt with effectively, in a professional manner by the police.

“The most effective measure is to implement the 125 recommendations by the Royal Commission to Enhance Operation and Management of the PDRM 2005,” he said.

Coal is Outdated, Exco Urges TNB to Explore Alternative Energy

8

PETALING JAYA, 2 Oct: The Executive Councillor (Exco) in charge of Tourism, Consumer Affairs and the Environment, Elizabeth Wong, suggested for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to implement the ‘Micro Sitting’ method in Government buildings or its surrounding areas as an alternative energy source for everyday living.

The proposal was put forward after TNB decided to build two high-technology coal-fired power plants in Perak to meet the growing demand for electricity.

Elizabeth is of the opinion that the decision by TNB is surprising, seeing that other countries are now focused on the implementation of renewable energy sources including solar energy, biomass and hydro.

“However, we in Malaysia are still focused on a resource which will be exhausted in the near future and it is a non-renewable resource.

“I suggest for TNB to use the provisions to use the ‘Micro Sitting’ method in government buildings and its surrounding areas to target for improved and renewable energy,” she said at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Petaling Jaya City Council and the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation.

Yesterday, TNB announced that it will be building two high-technology coal-fired power plants with the capacity of 1,000 MW at Manjung, Perak, to meet the growing demand for electricity.

The energy consumption at this time is estimated to have increase by five percent a year, and the two projects are in the company’s plans.

Both projects will begin soon and will be completed in four years.

Malaysia consumes about 15,000 MW to 16,000 MW of power per day, and the figure is expected to increase every year.

Anwar Successfully gets Tengku Maimun to Recuse herself as a Judge in the Sodomy 2 Appeal Case Panel

4

PUTRA JAYA, 17 SEPT: A Court of Appeal Judge, Datuk Tengku Maimun Tengku Mat today recused herself from the panel of three judges for the sodomy 2 appeal case which involves Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The move was decided voluntarily after her position as a judge in the panel for the case received opposition from the PKR De Facto leader’s line-up of lawyers.

Tengku Maimun’s successor will be decided in the trial which will continue tomorrow morning.

According to the Team Leader of the Counsel representing Anwar, Karpal Singh, the objection was made because Tengku Maimun was the judicial commissioner involved in Anwar’s defamation suit against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad regarding allegations of being homosexual in 2007.

“The application was made to withdraw Tengku Maimun and the appeal was successful. She recused herself as a judge in this case,” said Karpal.

Apart from Tengku Maimun, the two other judges in the panel who heard the case were Datuk Ramli Ali (leader) and Mohd Zawawi Salleh.

Earlier, on 9 January 2012, the Kuala Lumpur High Court rules that Anwar was not guilty of sodomising his former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Three days later, the prosecution filed an appeal to overturn the decision.

CM, 1,5000 Klang Citizens Celebrate Lantern Festival

3.1

KLANG, 14 SEPT: Despite the changing times, for the Tiong Hua community, the full moon which shines during the Mid-Autumn Festival still mean togetherness, family and unity.

Celebrated at the end of the harvest season, this festival celebrates separated families and reunion. This festival also commemorates the work of the peasant group, that struggles throughout the year and takes this opportunity to jointly share the harvest.

These beautiful values prompted the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, along with 1,00 citizen of Klang to celebrate the festival at Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, despite the occasional drizzle throughout the night.

The banquet which was enlivened with the presence of citizens of Klang, from senior citizens to young children, including the Klang Member of Parliament, Charles Santiago, Member of the Datin Paduka Central Council, Dr Tan Yee Kew and the Chairman of the Bandar Bukit Tinggi Residents Association, Gan Ee Chai.

After giving a casual speech, Abdul Khalid, who is also the Port Klang Assemblyman, and the people celebrated with lion and dragon dances. Various firecrackers flooded the celebration with different colours and sounds.

Although special lanterns could not be released into the air because the rain did not allow it, the public respectively carried small lanterns hung at the end of short sticks. Lanterns were also hung at permitted areas. Indeed, this festival cannot be separated with lanterns, which brings a variety of meanings according to different beliefs and local history.

Once upon a time, in Pingxi, the village people released lanterns into the air to bring good news to neighbouring villages that they were protected from rogues.

In this celebration, Khalid and attendees carried lanterns and walked around Bandar Bukit Tinggi to meet and mingle with the people of Klang. Perhaps he also brought good news to the people of Selangor that we are one big family, and that their welfare is protected under the State Government under his leadership.
