Price Hike is not Fate, Islam Defends the Rights of Buyers

3

SHAH ALAM, SEPT 9: The government should not put the blame on fate alone when the prices of essential goods goes up when there is a group living in luxury.PAS Information Chief, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said, Islam does not only defend the rights of traders, but also cares about the rights of buyers so that a fair concept can be implemented properly.
He said, the hadith quote mentioned by the Chairman of the Umno Young Ulama Secretariat Working Committee (Ilmu), Fathul Bari in the article ‘Price of Goods the Ruling of Allah’ was used in the wrong context.

“It is a fact that it fluctuates, our death is set by Allah but it does not mean that the government can do as they please and blame it on fate.

“If humans (traders) can do that, then we can see that in Islam fair rights is not just for the trader but it has to be just for buyers too.

“This is also the same if we look at the government cutting subsidies for the people and at the same time, the corporate and aristocratic groups are seen as living in exaggerated luxury,” he told TVSelangor.

Tuan Ibrahim said said that the statement should be corrected to avoid misunderstandings, and that Fathul Bari’s statement provides a negative image of Islam.

He said that it is as if Islam allows traders to place prices as they please and think of it as Allah’s provision.

The same was said by Safiq Izzat Azmi, 23, who described the programme as providing a reminder of the bloody tragedy in Egypt.

He said that the dialogue and information of the tragedy in the restive country provided knowledge and information about the cause behind the recent mass murder of the people of Egypt.

“The Egypt issue provided a clear picture to those who do not know the real cause of the unrest in Egypt,” said the student of a public institution of higher learning.

Amirul Ridhuan Mohd Noor, 23, said that the Selangor government’s efforts in organising knowledgeable programmes should be praised and emulated by other states.

SHAH ALAM, August 21: The Selangor Government will hold a public forum to gather the people’s opinion in implementing the Pakatan Rakyat Manifesto which was launched in the 13th General Election (GE-13).

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said, the forum will be held at the local authority level and is expected to take place mid-September.

“This forum will involve the people’s representatives who will take part in discussions with the public. The public will be given the opportunity to voice their views on the implementation of this manifesto,” he said after chairing the Exco meeting here at the State Secretariat Building today.

The forum will be headed by the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) in collaboration with the Chief Minister’s Office.

Abdul Khalid added that all responses from the people in the forum will be collected by each standing committee to be used in the preparation of the 2014 Budget.

“The Selangor Government is confident and believes that public opinion is important in ensuring all policies and plans outlined in the manifesto meets the target groups,” he said.

He explained that the forum will also serve as a platform for the State Government to identify the needs of the people in order to use state revenues to reduce the income gap and the poverty rate through Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) agendas.

“Pakatan Rakyat takes serious responsibility in managing the assets of the state properly in the best interest of the people,” he said.

CM: Long-Term Programmes to Ease the People’s Burdens

3

SHAH ALAM, Aug 7: Recognising that the people still need assistance to ease their burdens due to the high cost of living, the Selangor Government is committed to offer programmes that provide long-term benefits.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that it is to address the hardships faced by the people in this state due to the failure of the Federal Government to combat the price increase.

He said that the implementation of the programme is a continuation of the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES – the People’s Economy) agenda which will be expanded and improved from time to time.

“The State Government is aware that Muslims and non-Muslims of this state, totaling to 5.3 million in Selangor, needs assistance to ease the burden of living as a result of the price increase of goods which cannot be dealt by the Federal Government,” he said.

In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr) message, Khalid said that among the early efforts which will be implemented is to intensify the development of traditional villages and new villages throughout the state.

Even after more than 55 years of independence, and with a number of ministries created for rural development, development in nine districts in the state are far from satisfactory.

“The provision of basic needs for the use of the public, religious education and source of income for the residence is still not enough, so much so that the development of traditional villages and new villages are not eligible to exist in a state which was declared a ‘developed state’ almost 10 years ago,” he said.

Abdul Khalid said that the State Government also plans to build more affordable homes in addition to improve aspects of safety, educational assistance, family development and so on.

1.3

He also did not rule out the possibility of adding the existing provisions to RM5 million, if the contingent requires additional equipment and infrastructure.

“The State Government is aware that our provisions are less than other states, however, for us, it is not a huge allocation that determines victory but regular training and strong involvement provides the opportunity of victory.

“However, we will ask the Local Authorities and district offices to upgrade sports facilities and infrastructure for the convenience of our athletes,” he said in his speech.

In the recent Sukma championship, the Selangor contingent comprising of 477 athletes, officials, team managers and coaches emerged as the overall champion, eliminating the defending champion, Terengganu, after winning 23 gold medals, 17 silver and 30 bronze.
