Tragedy of 13th May: PAS Muslimat Challenge Shahrizat

KUALA LUMPUR, 5th DEC : The PAS Muslimat Central Council has issued a challenge to Wanita UMNO Chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil to a debate regarding the 13th May issue and of national unity.

The Deputy Chief of PAS Muslimat Council, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, commented that the debate proposition shows the willingness of the Muslimat Council to answer all allegations and statements issued by Shahrizat durig her speech at the UMNO Annual General Meeting, last week.

“That statement can bring fear, anxiety, insecurity, disturbance based on the threatening nature of the incitement leading to a betrayal of public trust and unrest among the many peoples of Malaysia today,” she said in a press conference at the PAS Headquarters today.

In her speech, Shahrizat was quoted with the following:
“…I fear and wonder if this might bring about racial tensions that can cause the tragedy of 13th May 1969 to happen once again. Do we want such a disgusting incident to be repeated in our country…”

Obviously, the Muslimat Council did not deliberately lodge a police complaint in regards to that matter so that the potential of a political debate to realize a new kind of politics that is based on maturity and responsibility as well as moral conduct in line with Islamic teachings.

Additionally, the ruckus that happened during series of public talks by Pakatan Rakyar in Gombak, yesterday seemed to ‘describe’ what will happen if the people insist on forming a new federal government at Putrajaya.

PAS Muslimat Explanation Chief, Aiman Athirah Al Jundi informed that the proposition for the debate had been known to the Wanita UMNO Chief yesterday.

According to her, the letter of invitation will be sent as soon as possible as the office of Wanita UMNO’s Chief is still on leave.

ABU: 13th May Will Not Repeat

SHAH ALAM, 5th DEC: UMNO-BN’s efforts in resorting to incitement such as a repeat of the bloody tragedy of 13th May should they fail to recapture Putrajaya reflects their desperation to re-garner the faith of the people.

Founder of the As Long As It Isn’t UMNO (ABU) movement, Haris Ibrahim says that the 13th May tragedy will not repeat as pictured by UMNO-BN because the people of the country are gaining political maturity and do not depend on merely one channel for information.

He says that UMNO-BN will not step away from their tradition of giving speeches based on racial sentiments to promote fear among the people to that they will choose to support the parti in the upcoming GE-13.

“In 2009, it was the ‘cow’s head’ issue… they (UMNO-BN) wanted to pit Malay against Hindu, Islam against non-Islam,” he stated in a special interview with TV Selangor.

He made the above remark while commenting on Wanita UMNO Chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil’s statement that the 13th May incident will repeat itself should UMNO fail to recapture Putrajaya during the UMNO Annual General Meeting recently.

According to him, the people do not rely on a single media channel that is completely controlled by the UMNO-BN regime but rather prefer to use alternative media such as the internet, blogs and social websites like Facebook and Twitter.

“UMNO’s media such as TV3 and Utusan play these issues everyday in the hopes of scarring the public, especially those living in remote areas because city-dwellers do not fall for such ruse anymore.”

“Just look, the other day the issue was the use of the name ‘Allah’ by Christians, and later a court order was issued… The incident of church fires… There were some who asked for a demo at a mosque but it failed because the Malay people have realised that all of it is a political agenda by UMNO to ensure its long life,” explained Haris, who is also a social activist.

Police Booth to Increase Security at Industrial Areas

KLANG, 4th DEC: KSelangor Government has, under the Selangor State Investment Centre Berhad (SSIC) granted the national police (PDRM) the Bukit Raja, Klang Industrial Area Police Booth.

This is an effort to boost confidence and security among investors and factory owners nationally and internationally so as to continue to invest and support the country’s economy.

Selangor State Secretary, Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi said that the police booth worth RM150,000was a step towards combating and reducing crime, especially in industrial areas of the state.

“With this, more investors will come to Selangor as there is a safety guarantee provided by the police and the government,” Khusrin explained in a media conference.

He said the above comment during the hand-over ceremony of the Bukit Raja, Klang Industrial Area Police Booth by the government to the police.

He added that the sum of investment in the Bukit Raja Industrial Area since August 2012 is RM384 mil that is a significant contributor to the rough output of the country (KDNK).

Therefore, safety measures must be increased in the area to reflect the determination of the state government to assist the police in combatting crime at industrial areas.

“Half of the cost of the booth was financed by the factory owners and for that I give my thanks,” he said.

The police boothe is the first built in the industrial area in Selangor and it is operational 24 hours a day for the purpose of access and convenience of communication between the factory and the police.

A replica of the police booth key was given by Khusrin on behalf of Selangor to the Chief of Police in Selangor, Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah.

As many as six police officers were assigned to the police booth located opposite Nestle Products Sdn Bhd factory, complete with a Police Record System (PRS) for ease of lodging complaints.

The proposition to build the booth was voiced by the factory owners following a series of break-ins and container hijacking resulting in a loss of millions of ringgit and a disturbance in the production line.

Umno Assembly Does Not Focus on the People’s Problems, Only Sows Hatred

PETALING JAYA, 3 Dec: The Umno General Assembly which ended yesterday did not focus on government policies and problems of the people, instead concentrating on igniting racialism, including trying to bring back ‘the ghost of May 13’.

Umno’s action is due to the rising sense of fear that Umno leaders will lose power when people reject them in the upcoming 13th General Election, says PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The act of calling back the May 13 ‘ghost’ was to create hatred between the Malays and non-Malays.

“Next, they will cultivate a culture of fear among the people that the bloodshed will happen if Umno loses power,” Anwar said in a press release.

Anwar also said the action was provocative and may be regarded as a crime.

The statement was issued by Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil in her opening speech at the Wanita Umno assembly meeting last week.

Anwar claims that Shahrizat’s statement is an attempt to revive her political career after being pressured to resign in regards to the National Feedlot Corporation scandal.

In the three-day conference, the Umno president who is also the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, also took the opportunity to attack Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders.

“Where are the ideas for the economy and social justice, health, housing and education?

“If he possesses a strong reason to oppose Pakatan Rakyat, he should accept my challenge to confront and debate. So that the people can evaluate who is telling the truth and who is fond of cheating.

“Do not hide behind your cheap propaganda machine and be a real man as the Prime Minister and come down to the court to debate with me,” said Anwar.

Najib also claimed that Anwar is a proxy for foreign powers, the United States and China, and at the same time, apostasy will run rampant and turn Malaysia into a Christian nation if Umno goes extinct in the next election.

Azmin: Najib Most Spendthrift PM in Spending Petronas Funds

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 Nov: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is the most spendthrift Finance Minister, by forcing Petronas to contribute the highest dividend rates in the country’s history.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali accounted that, except for Najib, there has never been a Finance Minister or Prime Minister who has extensively used Petronas funds.

Based on the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Statics, throughout Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s term as Finance Minister, Petronas had contributed a dividend of RM3.1 billion from 1992 until 1997.

The amount of dividends Petronas contributed when Tun Abdullah Badawi was the Finance Minister was RM9.1 billion in 2004, RM11.0 billion in 2005, RM18.0 for 2006 and RM24.0 billion for 2007.

Meanwhile, during Najib’s term, a sum of RM30.0 billion in dividends have been contributed consistently from 2009 to 2011.

“When Anwar had worked to reduce the national debt, the country spent prudently resulting in income surpassing spending without burdening Petronas and had driven economic growth up to 10 percent. Datuk Seri Najib had taken 10 times more out of Petronas funds.

“The national debt increased five-fold, the budget deficit lasted for 14 years and the economic growth rate is still sluggish at the rate of around four to five per cent,” he said at a press conference at PKR headquarters.

Azmin came forward today to maintain the credibility and ability of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in steering the economy following Najib’s attack yesterday at the Umno general assembly.

Azmin explained that Najib’s economic performance has not once ever surpassed Anwar’s in successfully accelerating economic growth in reaching 9-10 percent during his term as the Minister of Finance.

During Najib’s appointment as the Minister of Finance since 2009, he has reversed the economy’s direction and lead it towards crisis while neighbouring countries such as Indonesia continues to grow rapidly.

In addition, Najib Razak has also failed to overcome debt problems although Anwar had left it in a pretty good shape.

Azmin also said the modus operandi of the attacks against Anwar regarding his economic governance credibility is to use it again for the 13th General Elections (GE-13) to intimidate the people that the country will go bankrupt if Umno-BN is not given the power to rule.

“For the GE-13, people will still choose Pakatan Rakyat. This means that mature people will not be influenced by Umno-BN political propaganda in underestimating the people’s ability to evaluate the performance of the economy under the leadership of Anwar as Finance Minister.

Umno Deputy Women Chief of Semporna Joins PKR

PETALING JAYA, 30 November – Deputy Women Chief of Umno’s Semporna Division, Sabah Kalasahan Abdul Salam declared her withdrawal from the party and resigns from all her positions in the party with immediate effect today, to join PKR.

This decision was made due to the breakdown of leadership in the Umno Semporna Division particularly the Division Head held by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, one of the three Vice Presidents of Umno.

According Kalasahan, she has served for two terms since 2004 to 2012 and found that the leadership of Shafie is that of a dictatorship rule which makes Umno Sempoerna seem privately owned.

She added that the Sempoerna Division of Umno’s leadership leans towards participating in division, exclusion and marginalisation which is contradictory to the party’s concept.

“The nature of favoritism, cronyism and nepostism continues to be a practice and is denser in the Semporna Umno leadership pattern. They (Umno division) are far off track.

“Umno Semporna is also not managed based on the party’s constitution. The lack in transparency is too much in the administration and divisional meetings as well as in the Umno Semporna Division,” she said witnessed by PKR Deputy President, Azmin Ali.

She also explained that as the Minister of Rural Development, Shafie has also failed as a whole in his duty to develop Semporna.

“I also regret and repent regarding the sabotage carried out by the party leaders towards BN Bugaya State Assembly candidate in the 11th General Elections (2004) and the BN Sulabayan State Assembly candidate in the 12th General Elections in 2008.

“Those who had committed this sabotage were given special protection from the Umno leader of Samporna who also holds the position of the Semporna Umno Division Chief,” she said.

Meanwhile, Kalasahan’s husband, Abdul Habi Mustpha insisted that the issue of his ‘sacking’ which was in the media should be corrected as he had already left Umno on the 17th of November.

“Five days after my resignation, the announcement was made which involves a wide broadcast stating that I have been sacked from Umno.

“Why should I be sacked when I had already left Umno. This shows rapacity in Umno,” he said.

He also said that Shafie’s failure in developing the community of Samporna is clearly revealed when the district ranked last in the results for primary and secondary school examinations.

State Government Framework Includes Various Programmes for Single Mothers

SHAH ALAM, 28 Nov: A total of 24,009 women in Selangor under the category of single mothers have been given the opportunity to improve their standard of living as the State Government has planned various programmes to take them out of poverty.

Welfare, Women’s Affairs, Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture Exco member, Rodziah Ismail said that the initiative is taken so that they are not left behind in the development of the state.

“Among the programmes carried out is the Selangor Women’s Empowerment project through the Women’s Centre of Culture (PWB), the Rural Microcredit Sheme (SkimSel), Urban Microcredit Scheme (Mimbar), Women’s Farming Microcredit Scheme (Wala), Single Parent Empowerment Program SOHO Selangor (PET-SOHO- S), People Care Assistance Scheme (SiKembar), Selangor Kindergarten Assistance Scheme (Tunas) as well as the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) and the Selangor Welfare Department.

“All the programs and schemes offered are to attract single mothers in Selangor to join and sign up to participate,” she said when answering questions from Kota Alam Shah Assemblyman, M Manoharan in the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session here, today.

Rodziah said that from the amount specified, single mothers among the Malays recorded the highest number of 18,011 people, Indians (1,574), Chinese (792), indigenous peoples (two) and others (3,630).

She said that studies conducted by higher education institutions as well as local and international NGOs have found that among the problems that are faced is the financial difficulty to meet the their’s and their family’s daily needs.

Besides that, she added, it also involves problems with court dealings such as not receiving maintenance from divorce settlements as well as having to go through the cumbersome process of court proceedings in the long run.

“Problems regarding proper care children while earning a living and psychological effects, especially in the first three months as a single mother also plagues them,” she said.

Infrastructure Requirements of Religious Schools Will Be Evaluated Every Year

SHAH ALAM, 28 Nov: The needs of Religious Primary Schools (SAR) will be evaluated annually by the Education Division of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) to ensure that the schools receive assistance according to its priority ranking.

Education Exco member, Dr Halimah Ali said that the policy practised every year will not only evaluate the schools’ infrastructure but it will also involve the need of educators for the schools.

She said this in reply to debate questions regarding the Budget Committee of the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department raised by Skinchan Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim.

Suee Lim, in his question, raised the issue of the state of dilapidation of Sekolah Rendah Agama Parit 7, Skinchan which is facing infrastructure problems especially in student toilets.

“I agree that the school Skinchan mentioned is a priority because it concerns basic facilities,” said Dr Halimah again.

For this year, a total of RM8 million has been allocated by the Selangor Zakat Board for infrastructural development.

In addition, Dr Halimah also said that since 2008, Majlis Permuafakatan Institusi Pendidikan Selangor (MAPPIS) consisting of the Muslim population of Selangor was established to consider the long-term measures to raise the performance of religious schools in the state.

It is clear that religious primary schools are schools developed by the State including providing the building site while the people’s religious schools are fully funded by the people.

Up till now, Selangor has 23 religious primary schools, 11 religious integrated schools and more than 230 Kafa schools.
