An earth quake hit the West coast of France yesterday evening while I was finalising my flight plans to Sarawak. Here I am about to board the first flight to Kuching and those tremors call to mind the “Earth-tremor” of Sarawak himself Rentap (Libau Anak Ningkan) – that great Iban Dayak warrior of the nation – not just Sarawak – who took on the White Rajahs.
I am about to fly to the land not just of hornbills and the magnificent Mulu caves but the land of the freedom fighters, people who are absolutely fearless and will not flinch in the face of adversity. It is a fighting spirit that is still very much alive today.
And my spirit is uplifted thinking about my colleagues in Sarawak who are facing this coming elections. I am inspired by their drive and motivation and their grit to fight the good fight. In these last few trying days, they have maintained the utmost discipline and decorum in speech and conduct and I truly take my hat off to all of them.
I am going to Sarawak to drink in more of that spirit of conviction and courage to fight for that freedom – freedom from oppression, from exploitation and from decades of victimization.
I am fortified by the strength, the stamina and that capacity to go the extra mile in this fight. Something is in the air – and it’s not the haze.
The people of Sarawak are ready. Our leaders are raring to go into the ring. Lawan tetap lawan!
